Thanks! That's exactly what I'm expecting from mine too. It's a little confusing though, my chicks were not the tuxedo colored down either. I can't think of any better term to call yours except mottled though and nice ones at that. Mine aren't getting any black feathers in to replace the brown ones yet, just white, so it's going to be really fun to see what they turn out like. There is so much white coming in they may end up white! Now that would really freak me out, and further confuse me lol
Shouldn't much longer and I'll be able to post more photo's and I'll put the chick down, juvenile, first feathering then the newest one on one post to show the crazy progression. Maybe the chick down doesn't have anything to do with the mottling? just the base color?
I'm still waiting for my teeny chicks to feather out more. I haven't named the larger one yet but the teen one is Button. It has the palest yellow down (nearly white) of any chicks I've hatched and the black is a bold black, not faded and strong lines.
