I've decided to sell my dear Nelly, if you're interested. I have no Duckwing colored birds to breed her to, and she should get a new home while she's still young. As unremarkable as her show carreer was, she is the mother of most of my current show birds. I don't have a male to put with her yet, unless you want a white one. She's under two years old, lays well, and is friendly. You can always tell who her chicks are, because they inherit her character. I live about 1.5 hrs north of Cincy, but I'm sure I'm due to make a trip south fro a show one of these days.

I'm in no hurry to be rid of her, but it'd be nice if she was close to home!

This is my favorite of her children:

very nice type and color

never new of rosecomb seramas from the one pic, and other is old english game bantam hen in with silkies (sexually dimorphic and never heard of roo that color, but im learning new stuff everyday lately).
i just love the naturally easier and cleaner rosecomb to work with hopefully, as straight combs seem to all get frostbite and infection from most ive seen around here. wondering how to breed it into my babies, as have currently one true show rosecomb roo, and his first surviving offspring and only so far as know showing comb type (though have three hatched from eggs chicks ive not seen yet with someone else that sure they told me what combs were, but i forget) of first three eggs. maybe i just meed to let him breed more had maybe dozen or two babies from him, possiby three)?
course his one kept from first clutch from mating to crippled game hen baby is said by all who see to be beautiful, but he was very very naughty before i started working with him (ninja is merciless if antagonized in any way or thinks hes not shown regal respect he wants... lol). though tail feathers now going from straight to turning upward, so not sure what that means, as sure he was roo, but other poults are getting hanging tail feathers.

Roger that!! I have an ongoing frizzle project...last fall I hatched about 25 chicks in this project---turned out about 50/50% for frizzle or smooth...ALL the pullets had normal combs...All the smooth cockerels had normal combs....EVERY frizzle rooster had an inverted comb.

S would it be best to cull and not take the risk of breeding? I don't want to get rid of him and end up spreading the malformation if it is genetic.

Shavon,

I truly don't know. I haven't researched ingrown combs. I don't know if it is genetic or not--but maybe so, since it was only associated with the males that were frizzled...not the females....and none of the smooth feather birds. I doubt it is the result of diet since everybody was eating the same and I've never had it in hundreds of birds. If you don't want to cull your little cockerel, keep him on until you research the situation more. Side note--I did try to work the points out...it just wouldn't happen on mine.
