yea got many color to play around with its the best thing about seramas color ppls breed for type why cause thats what they need in their flock but if you got type down then play around with color then its start to get fun more cocoapop hatch this morning 10 chicks looks like red chipmunks color on 9 and the 1 is a yellow chipmunks so we are getting closer each day ....

Yep, I know, Type is foremost, but I'm kind of a nerd in that I love all the cool science stuff. Chemistry was probably one of my most favorite subjects in college. I loved all the formulas, and figuring out what you'd get when you mixed different elements.

Genetics intrigue me in the same way.

yes, but by breeding, and understanding genetics, you can find out exactly what hidden genes a rooster has by test breeding... i always thought the rules of chicken breeding didn't apply on serama... everyone said that they don't breed true and they change colors several times before hitting adult hood... but now it kind of makes sense to me... they will eventually breed true... but you'll see... by breeding for color, you're going to lose a lot of the type... you can have two very very typey breeders, but about 1 out of 10 will be a good type if you're lucky... like i told many people... i have only kept one OEGB from all of the ones i have been breeding... everything else was culled off somehow...

x2 agreed I throw my cull on the grill BBQ every sunday and a nice cold beer I only kept one or two but has to have type and right color if not sales cull or give away im also looking for yellow legs and beak and short back long legs and so on the rest BBQ haha

i got 25 serama chicks out of my owne birds and i think out of all those only two to four might make the cut . but i'm very picky because i want to breed the best i can so i try to keep the most perfect birds to re breed from my line.

Yes, the road to color perfection, without sacrificing type, in Seramas is a LLLLOOONNNNGGGG one. I really commend all the breeders that are seriously working towards color + type. For me, as a beginner, I know I have to breed for type first, I just enjoy the game of predicting what will hatch!
