wait for the chick to dry if u wash the chick it might get hyperthermia and die so just wait for it to dry u take a chick out of a incubator when dried unless the chick has some of the goo in him then just wait until it dries it should fall out on it's own as i have had chicks with this problem hope this helps

never wash any new born chicks period if their is stuff stuck to it I would leave it cause we cant see where their stuck to which part of the chicks body if its on the back or side i would leave it and when dry off in a few days they do all off happened to me when I had chicks in the incubator thats why I stop using that thing anyway hope that will help you alittle

I just left it alone for a while. I have had chick that were sticky before, but not from head to toe. It was literally sticking to the metal sheet at the bottom of the incubator. I am just going to leave it alone...I am just happy it made it out alive!!

I had a few chicks hatch like that journey, the stuff that was on them DID NOT crumble off, it was super crazy sticky. I had to use baby wipes dipped in almost hot water, and had to scrub the chicks 4 separate times. Just did it quickly, in a warm draft free room and put back in hatcher quickly. 3 out of 5 like this made it.

I am going to wait until it gets a little stronger and then I am going to start cleaning it of. It is a day early so I don't want to open the incubator to much.

What a gorgeous picture. You should have someone paint it...I think you can even up load to snapfish and they can make it into a painting!

Thank you! Actually I'm going to. There is a BYC member (and a FB friend of mine) who paints portraits. I commissioned her a long time ago to paint one of Zephyr but have never been able to get the shot I wanted...I think I got it

Sorry to hear about your chick.

Your rooster looks like a blue wheaten or blue red, I think its more of a blue wheaten due to the lighter shade of red on the hackles.

I would go more with blue red since he does not have the wing 'triangle' as a wheaten should. But I agree that the coloring of his hackles is more wheaten than red.
