Male duck killed, where to buy one in Southern California

If you use Facebook - you can ask to join a group called Duck Rescue Network. There are always ducks on there looking for a new home and many are in California. I know they would love to find you a new guy!

Hi. Who is stretch? My ducks are Khaki Campbell which are the sweetest things ever. Had the mom and her 3 ducklings and I believe a Bobcat ate my boy:-( The Bobcat seems to be comfortable around people and everyone has seen him at the side of the property that the dead duck was found. My ducks are free roaming and had just started excursion over the side that apparently the bobcat resides on. I plan on putting a fence but with 2.6 acres, there is bound to be more wild predators. I really dont want to encage my birds:-(

I just requested to join the duck rescue network and will post the need there. Contacted my local animal shelter and they dont have any but referred me to a site that I am going to check out right after this. I miss my 'boy' and his adorable personality. He was my favorite of my birds with the cutest playful character. Hope it was quick:-(

Stretch is the duck in Norco that I told you about with the link in my post above. He needs a home extremely fast. But, he is a runner and tall and skinny, maybe not a good match with the khakis. Pekins might be better.

That bobcat will be back for more of your ducks as ducks are a favorite prey of many predators and very vulnerable. Perhaps you can lock them up at night? Bobcats can also climb fences very easily.

I just emailed them about Stretch. It is going to be super sad if my other ducks are taken. They have been staying at the safe side of my property. They are free roamers and yes they are at a super safe coop with my chickens. The entrance to that coop is through my horse stall, it is fully covered with fencing going a 1.5 feet under the ground. I really hate to encage them and the bobcat seems to be a resident at the other side of my property given that my workers have seen him 3 times walking along as if it is a domestic cat. My chickens go to that side all the time and I have no idea how to keep them clear of that side of the property. I will take any and all suggestions and if I know keeping them indoors for a short while is going to be okay I will. I am thinking about clearing the side where my dead duck was found of all bushes and shrub as much as possible. I noticed there was a wanna-be-den there that I am working on building my courage to destroy. I am afraid I get attacked by the Bobcat:)

Clearing possible denning areas would be a good step as well as making trash is secure, etc. You don't want to encourage predators on your property. Perhaps you can put up a barrier so that the birds don't forage there. I'm glad they got a place to go at night.

Generally, with bobcats, as long as you give them space they will not hurt you.

I so much appreciate your input. Yes I plan on clearing that den area. There is no trash around at all -- I have a SUPER AAA personality!! :) I am seriously thinking about getting a BB gun and shoot the cat in its butt-- Need to practice shooting first :) I am going to clear that area and put a no climb fence on that section but I just found my chickens at the dried seasonal pond which is a passage way for the coyotes and apparently this Bobcat as well. The ducks are staying at the opposite end now but think after a while they may venture out like they did today. The mom is eating today but no duck egg so they are shaken for sure.

Same. Still looking. The sister stopped laying eggs but now she is back. They seem to be back to the normal selves but I miss my boy:-( The norco shelter did not work out.
