Hello! very recently I adopted a male finch from a bird sanctuary because he was kept in his own cage alone. when i asked why he was alone they said he was picked on by the rest of his old cage mates and would of died otherwise so i took him home with a cage for 10$ but i know finch cant be alone so i went and got a female for him. They sleep in the same nest and dont fight over food but for some reason when they both land on the floor of the cage the male puffs up his feathers and starts doing his call/singing and then starts to peck at her face. I dont know why, they are both zebras and they are fine when they are on a stand or in the nest but sometimes he just decides to pick at her. any ideas?

I haven't had zebras but it may be that he is trying to get her attention and getting annoyed when she isn't suitably impressed (and reacting how he expects her to) at his funny little dance. She may be a young bird who perhaps isn't ready to mate and still figuring it all out. As long as he doesn't seriously attack her, or chase her constantly I think they'll be fine. They are probably still building up their relationship and things should settle down soon.
