I agree it’s a huge risk with button quail......i successfully kept a lone button male with my pheasants, chukar and coturnix but he was with them from brooder on. i now have my buttons in smaller aviary with my finches and budgies but depending on your location, the buttons need access to heat with temps below 50*. my pheasants do okay with my coturnix but even then, there is always risk of loss due to size differences especially when male pheasants go through “puberty” and don’t understand that they are not meant to breed the female quail.Could I keep button quail along with 2 Male golden pheasants. It's really a 'toss up' when you start integrating different species to a single enclosure. Alot depends on how big the enclosure is, how much 'furniture', ie; stumps, shrubs, grasses, smooth rocks, perches, etc...you have in the pen to provide a stimulating habitat and a 'no line of sight' landscape and have refuge places for the hens from aggressive males during the breeding season.Thank you for your replies. Could I have chukar partridge instead?
it is possible but from experience, I highly recommend that you consider the advice given by @007Sean and NH tony. building a mixed flock is definitely not for the “faint of heart” and it comes with great risks as each species of gamebird has different spacial requirements, different personalities, and different sizes. I have been able to mix certain birds successfully by being willing to accept the risks, allowing plenty of spaceand refuges, and following a look/but don’t touch integration method when adding new birds. I also have maintained the ability to separate and/or cull any birds that are showing fighting/aggressive tendencies in the main aviary.Thank you for your replies. AAND PLEASE DO NOT CROSD BREED ANY PHEASANT BREEDS!
