Male guinea

What a sweet picture!

The only problem I am having between my guineas and chickens is the hens chasing the guineas. My rooster pretty much ignores the guineas although he does watch the males intently when they start chasing each other around. Even my 2 silkies chase my guineas when they have a chance. So far none of the guineas have turned on the chickens or so much as charged at them. My guineas have also taken to roosting in the hen house with my 3 younger pullets and my 2 silkies. My 2 older hens and rooster sleep in the rabbit shed still because I can't trust them with my younger ones.

I do have a decent size run for them but they pretty much free range the majority of the time. So far so good.

Our male guineas used to mildly harass our roosters when we had them, no blood drawn.

Their attitude toward hens seems to depend on the rank of the hen in the hen group, whether the hen is older or younger (I think they remember the older hens as "bigger than them"), etc. No major issues though, just a little posturing and short chasing over treats or territory. Some hens will chase a guinea, too.

They are free range in the day and the coop is divided so they can't get at each other in a confined space at night. That probably helps.

Beautiful pic Southern Oaks!

Hey is that tripod holding up a range feeder.... one of those automatic ones that dispenses scratch on a time table? I reallllly want one of those. It would be an excellent way to dispense a little feed now and then for entertainment/enrichment value. It would work across several runs at once too...

I have kept Guineas and chickens together for a few years, my Guineas males do chase chickens once in a while. My Guinea females lay their eggs in the chicken nest boxes and my hens have been hatching out guinea babies. Not one guinea hen has become broody.

yes! and I love it. We are going to have fencing for the flock so we can go out of town and not have to worry about feed. I have someone to check on them but hate asking them to feed everyone. I started feeding them under it before we turned it on. I have it set at 7 am and 5 pm. so far so good. We have one in the duck aviary and it works well for them too. I am working on funneling for them tho.. another project before we take a trip

there is a great webcam site called http://flyingskunk.com/live.php (looks like its down though) http://www.flyingskunk.com/players.html Somewhere in New hampshire anyway they have their range feeder set up to feed no more than once every ten minutes. So that people on the internet can click on a button that says feed the chickens and the range feeder goes off. The camera is set to watch the antics. There are a couple of goats in there too.

Hey you could do that then phone in feed..... LOL. I will go back to my hole now...
