Male packers

I got my order of FRENCH GUINEA fowl just this morning.

Along with the five I ordered came 7, yes SEVEN packing peanuts.

On the order it said "males included for warmth Thank You"

They look like black australorps to me. Here is a pic for ya.

I just raise them as if I ordered them. Down the road I will trade them or sell them off. I like roos and may even keep a few.

EDTA:

Some one ordered pullets for their order and the males had to go somewhere. I commend Ideal for just shipping off their extra males. You get what ever males where extra for that day.

I called Ideal to get a possible ID on my peanuts. They told me the"boys in the sexing department" work all night and what ever PULLET breed orders they ship out that day are the MALES you get in your box. There is no discrimination.

Just look on Ideals website for what Pullets they have and you will get an idea of what you have in your box.

My latest batch of BR roos began crowing at 8 weeks, fwiw. In fact, almost all the roos I've had started about that time. Granted, they are more like "practice" crows, aren't very loud, and surely wouldn't disturb the neighbors at that point. It usually takes another month or so before they get the volume they would need to disturb someone, I would estimate.

My last order was from Meyer Hatchery (http://www.meyerhatchery.com/) back in October.

I ordered 21 pullets and specifically asked for no "packing peanuts." When my box arrived my request was noted on the packing slip and I had no extras.

I guess that goes to show that (at least with Meyer) you can request no extras. Just be sure you order enough to keep each other warm during the cool months.
