Okay thanks. I think all my ducks are satisfied in their outdoor pen, they have a net over the top and lots of plants to eat. I would feel kind of bad clipping their feathers too. Thats nice you made your yard handicap accessible.
Does the drake fly and get around okay on one leg?

aww poor duck that is sad. Do you think he might get use to staying at your place/ at least he maybe safer since he has only 1 leg. I imagine it's pretty hard to get around on 1 leg.Yes he can fly. He can also swim good but on land he has to hop. It looks pretty exhausting, and if the other ducks attack him he falls over. Ducks act so nasty and envious when they see someone else get food.
Not that I know off, ducks aren't very popular pets around town. This drake is a "wild" mallard, a slightly domesticated city duck. I believe there is a muscovy duck somewhere around town, and a peking duck in a small lake.
We don't have stores selling ducklings/ducks so there's no impuls buying of them. Sadly pet stores do sell rabbits and they are often dropped off in parks and grasslands
I'll try to get pictures of him, his entire leg is missing. He ate a few peas yesterday and also duck feed but I had to throw it in the ditch because he didn't want to get out.
Cobra is my boy that left so maybe he got injured and returned? I don't know ;v;

I know, I will be moving several of the drakes into another barn or pen soon. Drakes don't fight when they are without hens do they?
How awful but to be able to survive something like that really proves how resilient these birds are. Hopefully he'll stick around sounds like he has a good place with you.I feel so bad for him I want to cuddle him and carry him around in my bathrobe. But he wouldn't appreciate that v_v He's been hanging around in the ditch under the willow all day, with my girls, Wingless and some other ducks. I'll feed him so hopefully he sticks around!
Maybe a mower got him, my uncle told me when he was younger and working on the farm it would happen that ducks had their legs cut off by mowers...
