MALLARD THREAD...not rouens, Mallards!

It's funny other forms say superglue it on backyard site. I've seen other forms on the site with issue simaler to mine. It works for them. But I have to feel the losses and have cookies spread about me and be tracked. Your just repeating what I already new from Hatchery's and vet. That's not what I needed.

This is the last time I will reply to you.

I do not echo other people's posts. I have years of firsthand experience and a lot of acquired knowledge, and reply with what I have personally experienced. It's your bird, do whatever you want, but don't ask for advice that you won't listen to, and don't advise other people on bad practices that you do not have the training or experience to successfully resolve.

Besides the challenges in understanding what it is you are trying to say, your belligerent attitude isn't winning you any friends. I'm not judging you, I don't know you. I can only reflect on your social behavior. This forum is full of caring, helpful people and it's difficult to work with someone who insists on doing damage to a living being whose very life is in your hands and who tries to influence others into dangerous behavior.

You need to handle this on another thread, this is not relevant to the mallard topic of this thread and I suggest that you find help else where . There are plenty of threads on this site that can help with your particular problem.

Walnut is also correct if someone is trying to give you advice when you asked for help it is only appropriate to thank them for their time . You do not have to follow their advice, but a nice 'thank you for replying .. but ...' is a simple and nice way to thank a person for their careing and helpfulness but also politely declining the action that they suggested.

There is more green appearing on my drake!

I will post some more pictures tomorrow.

I posted this question on a different board but it was suggested I pop over here to the mallard board with my question.

I am trying to figure out the sex of two of my 8 week old mallards. Two of the four have a nice green sheen to their heads so it is pretty obvious that they are drakes. The other two are just too hard to tell. The one with the orange bill is my talkative one but she sounds just like the others. My husband and I have listened to all the you tube videos and still can't tell the difference between our ducks. They all "quack" when I pick them up so that isn't helpful either.

Here they are and thanks in advance!

They are actually Rouens. The one that has a orange bill is a hen. Not sure about the other one though.

Gah! I purchased mallards! I am new to owning ducks so I trusted the farmer where I buy my chickens... That would explain why one of my ducks looks different than the others.

How can you tell them apart?

Spyderk is correct they are rouens.

As for deciding gender I say wait it out just a bit longer, but to me it looks like both are possibly female just from a glance, if i could hear them it would be much easier.

A little advice for the future, if the breeder is not a person who's main focus is ducks, they probably don't know as much as they should when selling the birds to you.

Rouens generally have 2 eyes stripes, Mallards CAN have 2 eye stripes as well it is just not as common. The best way to tell is through development your birds look larger and more heavy set , but not overly heavy, they are most likely production rouens, they are very good egg layers and great brooders.

Does one of them have a problem with their foot?

Thank you for the help! I love them all anyway so it doesn't matter to me :) My only concern is only having one hen. I may have to rehome my drakes as I don't have enough space for extra hens!
