Mallard vs. Rouen-- The Debate Continues!!!!

Naw, it's pretty easy. The trick is checking them when they are very young and have fewer feathers and bulk in the way and being persistent to see if you can coax "anything" out. (Plus they don't fight you as much!) The sphincter muscles get stronger as they get bigger so you need to rely on quack or plumage sexing adult ducks. I can't imagine a mister or misses duck holding still to be "vented" LOL

Hey thanks for that video. I think I can handle that. And in less than a week my little babies will be here to try it on!

My adult Mallard drake isn't nearly that big or bulky as a mature drake, much less a duckling! Even my cross from this spring is half that size as a full duck.

Thanks a lot everyone, I am really relieved that the matter has been cleared and the duck in question has been identified as a rouen. A rouen certainly has a much rosier looking future than a mallard would have here in always sunny Arizona.

Just out of curiosity, why is a Rouen better than a mallard in your area? We have mallards in our deserts. Is it a hunting issue?

I'd be worried about it escaping into my neighbor's yard, he's always hunting quail and probably rabbits as far as I know and I'm sure he wouldn't think twice about pegging a wild duck. A rouen will stay safely sequestered in my back yard.
