Found this egg in the incubator, the other chicks had turned it over so I didn't realize it was pipped. It is malpositioned but still alive. I have chipped away some of the shell and moistened the membrane and am waiting now. Planning to continue to wet the membrane and see how it goes, is there anything else I should do? You can see the pencil mark on the bottom of the egg for the air cell. I am expecting several more of these in this batch as they were shipped eggs.

I still see blood vessels so i would continue to wait. If you peel the membrane and it starts bleeding then its not ready. I would give it 24 hours in that position. keep doing what you're doing with the membrane. It looks like it needs more time. It doesnt really look malpositioned. or maybe it is. i dunno thats how all my chicks look when they hatch. lol.

I guess I am assuming that it is malpositioned since it didn't pip into the air cell. I will keep moistening and waiting, wish I had some bacitracin to use but I don't.

It could have internally pipped correctly and then moved to that position. Bacitracin would be nice but at this point bacteria is not really an issue. I mean that is a full grown chick. Bacteria will be unlikely able to kill it. Embryos are susceptible to bacteria because they are weak. This chick is just chilling and looks like its still absorbing the blood and yolk sac. He's getting air so he should be fine. When he gets strong enough he'll push out hopefully.

I recently had a chick that had the same problem. I completly removed the shell where the air cell was. I kept the membrane moist and pulled some membrane away but stopped where i could see blood vessels. The chick had a leg over its head and could not zip the shell. It made a large hole and the membrane startred to dry out. The chick lived and you cant tell it apart from the other chicks. I did a search for (when to help a chick hatch). Good luck.

I left the eggs (there were four of them last night) till this morning and then helped two of them out since there was all kinds of dried up stuff on them and the third one pushed itself out while I was helping the other two. They look pretty rough, like they were in there a little too long, but two of them were up moving around when I left for work. I'm hoping the third one is moving around when I get home or I'm thinking some physical therapy might be in order for him. There is one left that I could tell was not ready to come out of the shell yet so I dabbed on some water and left him alone. The one in the pic was up and running around when I left for work!
