Mama Duck Attacked!!

Quote:
My Meatbird food said it's good for all ducks, geese, waterfowl, chickens, etc. from day 1 onward. I blended it fine for the first few days, even added water to make it like a soup for a few days, but now they eat it straight up!

Hi all. Just a quick update on my miracle babies! Got another swim pix of them. The video will be on youtube within the hour.

Duckieswim.jpg

They haven't taken a dive under yet. I think they are just starting to realize they can actually float and don't have to paddle like crazy all the time! I tossed the other three eggs two days ago...no signs of life at all and lots of stink. I didn't 'check' them I just tossed them out. Don't want to know if any had ducks, even dead ones!!

They are already outgrowing their box and I believe we'll be putting them into the kiddie pool inside a secure shed outside in the area where the other ducks are, probably next week sometime. They grow SO FAST we can barely keep up!

More pix and vids to come!

Here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7reeaySv-oM

Also
an update! Papaduck has found himself a new girl among the white pekin ducks which is a good thing. They might make some interesting babies!

Looks like they are having tons of fun. Nothing better then to paddle fast and to even back paddle. I'm so glad to see your outcome. It makes life all so much better.

Mine are hatching right now. I have a hard hatch, which means the membranes are very thick. Three are out already. One made it by itself, the two others needed a lot of help. On one the inner membrane was dried on to its feathers and I had to soak it in warm water to free it. The other one had its foot bend inward and it could not put weight on it. I inspected the foot and I think the duck will be fine. It has motion in, but it has a hard time putting the foot out. It has improved in the last couple of hours, so I think it will go away. Still waiting on the others. Most of them piped over 48 hours, so I may need to help them too. It will be along night and another long day tomorrow for sure. I have 14 more eggs to go, and some may not make it. It will be a hard call with each one of them. Open to early and they may bleed, open to late and they may die. I will be doing my best.

Hey all!

Just wanted to post another video update of my miracle ducks! I am enjoying them so much and am SO grateful for the happy ending. Can't thank you all enough who helped me through this new adventure.

Thanks for the update! I like the brooder pool set up. (and, so incredible this had such a happy ending ...)

I was just thinking of you yesterday and today you did post more info on your quad. They are so much fun. I have 11 right now and I do need to get a bigger brooder setup. I'm thinking of getting a large kiddie pool to contain them. Right now I have to clean theirs twice a day and they just turned one week old. Can't keep them to long in there. Weather still stinks up here. Never seen that much cold and wet weather up here. It should turn into the mid 70's by Monday. Plan on keeping them outdoors in the aviary in the day time. Should be fine, we will see how they act. Enjoy your little buggers while you can, they will grow so fast. They should have their full set feathers in about 3-4 weeks.

the one thing i hate with my ducklings inside is the MESS WITH THE WATER! i cringe when i was watching the baby spray the water everywhere! lolol. not sure if it is a pain to you but i used wee wee pads and they worked out pretty well.
