Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Night 1 in the barn, stupid birds all huddled in the corner of the brooder behind the feeder. Moved them to the MHP cave. Night 2, not in the corner Yay! Or not, they were in the "well" between the 1x6 board that keeps the shavings in and their glass door to the outside world. Moved them to the MHP cave. Repeat that tonight. Not the smartest birds in the coop.

This is a picture of a couple of them sitting on the aforementioned board.

I just got home and 5 of my babies were under the MHP, but my little Buff Orpington was laying motionless over by the food. I picked her up, tried to get her to take a drink but she wouldn’t, and put her in the cave.

She’s still under there, and has moved around a little - she climbed off my hand when I was putting her in there. All the others are out now, eating and drinking, but she still won’t come out.

When I just lifted the cave to check her, she lifted her head and gave a few cheeps.

Anything else that I should do for now? She’s the littlest, but it doesn’t look like she’s getting pecked.

I have happy chickies today. We took down the partition and now they have the whole 8x8’ coop to run around in. There was still some straw left over from when we set up the brooder space, so they were having fun climbing up the pile.
Was going to ask about your other birds....then remembered these are your only ones!
Welcome back to chickeneering!
...and out of lamp land.

So whaddya think about MHP, Bobbi? ;)
You have a convert! I’m glad I tried it. I did lose one chick yesterday - I think to pasty butt, but the rest all seem happy and healthy.

Thanks Aart, I’m happy to be back in the chicken keeping flock!

I have Nutri Drench. She just had a few sips of that & regular water. She walked around a little after that, and went back in the cave. Right now, all 6 are in there. We are worried about our little Buff, though.

Should I make a mash with the crumble and see if she would eat that? Anything else I could add to it?

They were shipped Monday, so she should be 3 days old now. Not sure if that matters.
