Well, I'm back from more travels and I see the MHP thread is warming up nicely! I got mine out a month or so ago in preparation for the chicks I'd ordered, but I've since cancelled the order and there will be no chicks here this year. Sad, but the travel schedule we thought was opening up has actually become just as full as the previous months have been, so we just won't be home long enough at a stretch to properly care for them. And it will be this way until August, so I'm hoping next spring.....

What a fantastic group the MHP thread has built! Thank you all for sharing your setups, your advice, and your experiences, and for being so willing to help others. You all are the best!!

Me too! I was so looking forward to raising chicks and having chickens again. Katie is just as bummed as I am, but this schedule is just grueling! I haven't been on BYC in a few weeks because keeping up and posting here isn't as easy to do on the phone or iPad as Facebook is. We stopped at TSC on our way home from the last trip because Ken needed some parts for his lawnmower. I stayed in the car - didn't want to hear the cheeps after seeing the "Chicks are IN" sign there!

Order some chicks to come Aug 5th. Plenty of time for them to feather out in their MHP brooder before it gets cold and you'll have eggs starting in the spring instead of having to wait until fall!

I hear ya! I remember swearing up and down, I wouldn't get suckered by chicken math (addition, of course). Four were enough for me. Well, I'm up to 5 with 3 more on the way in June. And I have a breed wishlist saved on my phone.

I know 8 isn't a lot by most standards, but I've doubled my flock size in less than a year!
