I think they probably don't get as warm as a heating pad, so they might not work very well in colder climates.

I'd be curious to know if those pads reach the same surface temp(100-120F) as the human heating pads.
The are a bit smaller for the money, but already waterproofed.

It might be warm enough, but the first review on the TSC site says they don't think it would work well for chickens-- they don't think any heat is generated unless there is weight on the pad, and I myself own a pad that is exactly engineered like that, for pets like cats and dogs. In any case, I wouldn't use this type of pad for MHP because it doesn't have the features that are required to make MHP work: variable heat control and always-on cabability, combined with "comes back on by itself if the electricity goes off". Plus the second one says it's 9x12, which is small. For less money you can get the recommended pad with the features needed:

I do like the wash-ability of it, but I also wonder how warm it will get.

Just for grins I taped a heat probe to the underside of my EcoGlow and it's at about 124 degrees right now.

I was researching those a while back, and believe that I read they will only warm up 20(or thereabouts) degrees above ambient temp. So using it outside at 20 degrees, the pad will only be 40.
I could be wrong, but that was my understanding. I'll see if I can find where I read it.
