Thanks Blooie. It was amazing to see how quickly they quieted down tonight. Everyone is all snuggled in for the night now. They were quite active all day so it's nice to see them calm.

I had to turn a light on mine, I wanted to see them moving about..LOL

I cannot believe how happy they seem!




I hope they are warm enough, my DW is all concerned. I think if they were cold they would be further back in the cave.

Chicks will let you know if they are too hot or too cold.... They wont shut the bleep up..... A quite chick that is active during the day is the right temperature... Barring when one gets lost

About to go to bed, but I just had to post: This is the quietest and happiest that I have ever seen baby chicks. Amazing - just amazing.

This one is low-seated and lightweight (perfect for new/young chicks). I may try to cobble together another one for older chicks that has a little more support for when they all start sitting on top (so they don't collapse it with their weight).

I saw the hardware cloth - did you have something else in the structure? I ask because mine is made out of 1/4" hardware cloth alone. Working well now, but may need reinforcing when they are older and stand on top a lot...

Yes, sorry! It's laying on top of a trimmed, squished, tomato cage.
