This is my "safe" place, she never comes on here. It is like going to a shrink but a lot cheaper.

I usually end up buying a replacement and saying "this time I'm putting this where I'll know where it is" only to find the original in the place I don't think I'll forget.

Yep, sewing camper. I am a avid quilter, and in this house there was no room for my sewing, especially after we got custody of grandkids Jamie and Little Diane. A friend had a big travel trailer that they used to use for the guys who used to come up and work the beet fields in summer, but they had stopped raising beets so the camper was sitting empty at the edge of a field. She asked me if I wanted it, and then she and her husband hooked it up to their pickup and brought it over. What a mess! Full of mice...mice and nests and mouse skeletons, spiders......ugh! I even got Hanta Virus from cleaning it! But after it was done, it became my sanctuary! I used 1/4 inch hardware cloth to prevent more mousies, with fine screening over that against crawly things. Ken hardwired power out there, so it's on its own circuit.

This is genius. I have approximately 700 linear yards of fabric in my current stash and it has taken over my craft room (I do other things besides sewing) and the hallway and laundry room. I am suggesting this to my husband when he gets home from drill.

BTW Thank you for the idea of a heating pad hen. Mine turned out well & so far it's doing great. Chicks are 2.5 wks old & were moved out to the garage about a week ago. Tonight's going down to 26'F. I'm nervous. Can the heating pad really work in such cold temps? Should I add a heat lamp for tonight?

When I've checked on them, they're eating & drinking like normal, but I'm darn cold out there! Some are also under or on the heating pad mama. They've been in 40'f temps & even a dip into mid 30s for an overnight low. The below freezing forecast has me guessing. Has anyone ever used this method in these temps with young chicks??? I want to make sure I do not end up with chick-icles.





I made the heating pad support adjustable & tried to mimic the Eco-glow.
Mine has been raised 2x since the chicks are growing fast.


The whole re-purposed playpen was moved to the garage. There's no wind nor rain, but the temp will go below freezing for several hours.

Me too! My DW seems to think I do this more than "normal" people do....... ( see more money saved by expressing it here and not on a shrink's couch)

Dinked around with a new chick feeder today...old ones maybe not enough for this many chicks.
Took a failed (IMO) bin feeder and modified it...so far no scratching / billing out of feed.
Used seltzer bottles as funnels.
Worked good after they figures it out....now 2-4 days old, they had STUFFED crops this evening.
