I think it gets too hot... they dont need as much heat with the MHP because their backs are up against the ceiling of the 'cave"

With heating elements you can't just take the wattage and multiply by the hours it's plugged in,One of our concerns is the cost of running electronic devices, which is why I asked about the wattage. Running something at 180 watts 24/7 isn't as cheap as running something at 50 watts 24/7.
Below is the one that I've used, but not it's making me wonder.
In the comparison they're basically the same, except the "Express Heating Pad" (Blooie's link) is listed at 180w
and this one below is listed at 50w. (covering more "plush" with the Express Heating Pad)
So, I'd think the 180w would put out more heat, right?
I'll have to test the surface temp of mine, but the chicks did ok with it when I used it during the summer last year.
