So glad to hear he’s doing well! Ashley just had her 1 year checkup and she’s also still cancer free! The Good Lord blessed them both.

Was supposed to be picking up day olds so thought small heating pad would be fine to start. Got from 2 days to 3 weeks! They needed a lot more room. So kept them in the house for 3 days until could get s bigger heating pad. We are sitting at below freezing at nights in an unheated coop. Moved them put on Wednesday and they are doing great. Unfortunately picks in coop are turning out real dark and loading in reverse order.

So here is my draft free environment for the ducklings and goslings. The plastic sheeting is heavy duty 3mm. The plugs for the MHP will be upstairs in the coop and we removed the ladder since they won't use it anyway. As you can see in the picture, half the top is open. We thought we would cover it should we get a bad night. Both doors function. What do you think?

Sigh... I may have purchased the wrong heating pads. I hope not. Nothing in the product description says they have automatic shut off. The reviews said they don't have automatic shut off. The direction says, "If equipped with auto shut off, there will be a red LED light in the top left corner of the control." There is a red LED light on my controls... Went to the company website, no mention of auto shut off. Read more reviews. About 85% don't shut off, another 15% says they do. I have another hour to go to see if they shut off. DH insisted on going to the local farm supply store (30 miles on slushy, slippery, nasty roads) to buy a heat lamp bulb in case they do have the shut off. (I told him I could go after work tomorrow, but I think he was suffering from cabin fever.) Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes with the heating pads. The frames are built, legs on for adjustment, straw in the coop, waiting for babies on Wednesday. Will post pics of the MHPs soon, if they don't shut off on me...

DH can return the heat lamp bulb when he next gets cabin fever.

Looks like it should work. They have cover from the coop and fresh air from the HC covered run.

Got 'er done. Hold onto your hats, here come the pictures!
Frame #1. A little wider than necessary, but I decided to keep it that way so they have a cooler space if needed. The rods you see are the adjustable legs.


This is the second one made. A little narrower than the first. They are both showing the side that will be facing down. The bungees are pretty tight, so hopefully they won't pose a problem.



There was a gap between the frame and the cardboard due to the construction of the frame.
