Thank you!Keeping fingers and toes crossed for a successful hatch!![]()
Wow! 34 broodies! How many of them did you let hatch babies? I'm trying to breed a higher quotient of "good broody" into my mutt flock. Ideally, in future, I would love not to have to hatch in an incubator. I've been reading in the incubation threads and it terrifies me to try it.
WoW!! That is a bunch of chicks, but it sounds like a bunch of fun. You must have a TON of hens to have 34 broodies. They all hatched babies, except Carrie's first sitting. She gave up on day 16, and i finished hatching those. Of that 34, several hens went a couple of rounds (one hatched 3 sets!), so that is maybe 20-25 hens. They hatched anywhere from 1 to 10 chicks each, averaged probably 5. Lots and lots of chicks! Lol
* but i still love incubating!
I have a BAD feeling my one egg is now dead. I looked this morning and it had two tiny dots of sticky drops beading on the bottom. From everything I read that means its dead. I candled it and you can easily see feathers outlined. I have never seen movement though. I don't see a bloodring but from what I read, the drops of sticky liquid means death. Maybe I should but it in a ziplock bag but don't seal it and keep going with the incubation until I am sure???
