Mammal in the barn

There is something pigs can get -- I want to say pseudotuberculosis but am not at all sure of that -- that mimics TB and can cause the carcass to be condemned if having it commercially processed. Not a big problem for most backyarders tho.

The bigger problem with pigs+chickens together would be the pigs killing and eating the chickens, which they most certainly would given the opportunity (like a chicken taking a snooze at the wrong place at the wrong time)

ozark hen,

do you have electric fence strung over your run? Trying to find some options on what to string over our run to keep the hawks out come spring/summer. (of course with the bantams, I should probably just use netting or chicken wire so they can't get out.

No, we just use nylon filament that is real cheap at WalMart..sporting good dept...with a few cd's dangling. Learned that from Speckled Hen. Never had a hawk try to come in with it strung that way. We certainly do have the hawks around here, too. It really works.
We will try to put the electric wire around the pig pen next spring but moving the pig house out of the run and making it separate from the run next year.

I agree, I would totally not put a pig in with chickens. Even my little potbelly tries to bite them if the chickens get in his pen. As far as the other animals, I'm not sure, but I would think it would make it way too messy! Plus it is best to have the chicken run covered, IMO, and that wouldn't be very comfortable for most animals. Plus they probably would share feed, which might not be very healthy.
