The chickens 'belong' to me and my daughters. My husband is pretty much hands-off unless I need something heavy lifted or something fixed beyond what I can fix.

However, my hens HATE him! I shouldn't laugh, but it's hilarious. If he gets near their coop they stretch up and pretty much scream at him. When they see me or my girls, they ruffle and stomp and follow us around. Of course, we give them treats and cuddles and talk to them.

Their reaction to my husband has the rest of us just laughing. The RIR in particular has issues with him. She honestly looks like she's challenging him. She puffs up, stretches her neck up, puts her wings out a bit and squawks/screams. If he has to get close to her, she'll charge him and peck at his feet.

I love chickens. :lau

That's so funny! :lau

My RIR's don't particularly care for my husband either. They tollerate him, but don't really like him. They see him coming, they very quickly get as far away from him as they can get. Except Truffles. She will run straight over to him and never leave his side. Which is strange because my husband never spends time with them, he's just mainly the handyman. I'm always the one who spends time with them and gives them treats and she never does that with me. Go figure. She's just a daddy's girl I suppose. :idunno

Chickens are awesome, so many different personalities.

My husband is not involved with the flock. At. all. But, he will occasionally do what's needed. One year, I was on a long trip, and he had to tend them for 10 days. He and the flock both survived. They are not afraid of him, nor do they demonstrate any aggression, including the roo and the cockerel. As a matter of fact, if he's doing any "man chores" in and around the coop/run, at least one of them (his girlfriend) will come and stay very close, she will inspect the contents of his tool box, yank on his boot laces, tug at his pant cuffs, and tell him her deepest secrets.

Oh yeah, this man who does not like chickens, at. all. has been caught walking all the way across the yard, cradling a night crawler in his hand to toss it to the flock. Inevitably his girl friend gets it. This is also the man who does not do outdoors any more than necessary. Outdoors is the space between the front door and the car door!

I had that happen with a friend's goats once. She told me to be careful around one goat because she hated men, and another was very stand-offish. I brought them leaves as treats and they both fell in love with me. My friend couldn't believe it.

My girls are the opposite(im a guy) they come and greet me the second I start to walk to the door and will walk along side me on my way to the egg door and meet me there

In my previous flock (when we lived in FL) one of my RIR's fell in love with DH. She tolerated me but when he showed up, she'd desert me and couldn't wait to run up to greet him. He'd carry her for long walks around the yard, feed her special little treats and baby talk to her. That was definitely HIS chicken
