Lady clearly states she is in an unincorporated, rural area where there are no restrictions on livestock. Not in a town or a city where roosters should NOT be allowed. She is within her rights as a property owner to have whatever livestock she wants. Thats why we choose to live in rural areas.

It's cavalier attitudes like that that cause such areas to have to eventually pass laws forbidding roosters under any circumstance.

Sure I live in the "city"
And my neighbors have dogs that they allow to bark 24/7
and neighbors that party ALL NIGHT LONG
and neighbors that are hammering and sawing til the wee hours
And the college up the street, and the playing fields down the street. And the college students and ALL that comes with them.

And I have a rooster that I am trying to rehome. Why?
Because even though all this other crap and noise is going on around me "I" am NOT a rude neighbor.
No one has complained. I have the permit to keep them, and him. I am within the law even in the city. But there is the basic consideration for my neighbors. So tonight Humphrey will be put in a cat carrier(maybe the "not being able to stand and stretch his neck to crow" thing will work?) If so, that will be his home til I leave for work at 830 and will be his new place overnight. I am also adding a heavy wool blanket to the window vents for overnight/early morning. If these things work he stays. No one will be bothered by him occasionally crowing during the working hours of the day. But 5/6/7 am here? It's just not neighborly to allow him to be "him". Legal or not

Oh cmon. There's no law against carrying a bag, for heaven's sake. Heck, most women carry bags wherever they go! Maybe it was a grocery bag, maybe it was a trash bag, whatever. Don't jump to so many conclusions.

Hmmm but maybe he had a head in that bag.
Was there blood dripping from it??(sorry it's a joke within my family)

Wow! What great morning reading...it has caused me to wonder many things. I wonder about assumptions and narratives that get embroidered. I wonder about how we can expect to have any sort of peace on earth when neighbours can't even get it together to discuss problems.

I will be getting rid of my last few roosters, they haven't started crowing yet but I live in a subdivision. I'm allowed roosters but I don't need them and they do turn people off of backyard chicken owners. I talk to my neighbours about my chicken plans. When our new house was being built by my guy we were vandalized - almost every window broken for no reason. We went to every house in the neighborhood to tell everyone. Communication is key.

Here is the neighborhood I envision, where people would talk and plan about what is going to happen in the coming days and months - could we build a community garden with a deer fence? I want to get bees - is anyone allergic? Would you like to have some eggs and honey? I'm sorry my dog got loose last week and barked all over the neighborhood like a crazed ninny. I heard you have some troubles - can I give you a hand with your wood or make you a casserole? My kids have grown out of their winter boots - would your kids wear them? Watcha got in that bag? Come on in and let's talk - I'll put the kettle on. I was wondering if you would mind not idling your car down at the school bus stop? My kids have asthma and it isn't so good for them. Would you teach me how to can?
I have some good chicken poo compost - like some for your tomatoes?

love,
jan la banan

Like Lincoln said, "I destroy my enemies by making them my friends" Somebody does something bad to you, like my sister's neighbors kid egged her mailbox, she baked them cookies. Never had a problem again.

Here is a thought...get about 20 more roosters for a week or so, then get rid of them...he won't even hear the one after that....

we live in the "country" and we still have a noise ordenance but so far no one has really reported any noises. AN old lady on the other side of the valley every christmas plays LOUD church christmas musice from i swear a megaphone from midnight on...it's really annoying and rude to say the least. A breeder kennel moved in this summer, over 26 dogs, from great pyrs, to beagles to toy breeds to boxers....ona very small plot of land...they are a 5 min walk away...however the valleys make it very easy to hear them bark and bray and echo off the mts. If anyone so much as complains about my moms rooster, you bet I'll be complaining about how they fight constantly, have screaming children, barking dogs and old bitty neighbors who obviously can't hear very well.
