It won't address Marecks
Agreed! There is nothing to cure Mareck's. Vaccination at hatch is the only preventative measure. Natural holistic approaches do not tackle viral diseases. About the best thing one can do for a Mareck's bird is give pain meds. My vet has seen rare recovery from Mareck's cases☹️.

This little turnip got a toenail caught in the door to the tall coop and ripped it off...poor lil dude. View attachment 4266815
Pics inside spoiler, I was shocked seeing the blood outside the pen at lock-in

He got blood all over my sweater but he's going to recover. I only saw the toenail injury but those things bleed like crazy.
Poor sweet Blaze!

Our Mini, as you may recall, tore off toes & toenails all at once scratching too hard in a wooden nestbox. We rushed her to the vet cuz we didn't know how bad it was cuz of so much blood. We Vet-wrapped her wounds w/ triple antibiotic ointment to keep the wounds clean till healed.

Here she is w/ missing toes & some missing nails too ~ hard to see, she doesn't have the normal 3 front toes. This little girl introduced us to many many health issues & vet visits!

I'm guessing at when the power to the run was cut: I think about 10am; before 11 am at least. The insulated waterers were both okay at 3pm though one had an icicle forming under the little trough/"beak".
I got the ones I have at Premier One. It's way more wattage than you have though - 100 watts. I have the older model and the new model. They each have nice long cords. I set them on upturned 3-gallon buckets, but they can hang.

  • Lid is secured to the base via unique interlocking tabs
  • Conical lid shape to prevent birds from perching and soiling waterer
  • Insulated lid traps warmer air inside waterer
  • Handle can be used for both carrying and hanging
  • Detachable 16' electrical cord for more flexibility without using extension cords. If you must use an extension cord, use a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord that is rated for a minimum of 1 amp (100 watts) continuous draw.
  • Built-in thermostat turns heating element on at 40°F and off at 60°F. Note: Water in the basin does NOT get hot, nor even warm. Rather, the thermostat keeps the water from freezing.
  • BPA free plastic
  • Ducks can drink from this waterer, though we periodically offer water in a rubber pan so they can submerge their heads
I am impressed w/ Premier. We don't need warmers here but got other stuff from them.

How do you know when it needs refilling? I am guessing you can’t see the water level?
