Managing chickens.smells,flies etc help

Well here is another update: another noise investigation was held and found my roo was crowing as yearly as 5am. Yes I expected that for lots of reasons. My rooster knew when my husband was going out the door for work and would crow we also ended up with light coming into the coop (even tho we tried to reduce it and the pieces were broken off how I don't know when not 100% sure).

Lately the neighbours directly behind us have had their bright upstairs light on as well as the neighbours in the back left of my house who I swear have had their lights on all night for the last 4 weeks also another neighbour had a flood light to the back right of use sec house down and it's pointed towards my house that flaming thing when triggered stays on for at least 5 mins at a time the thing goes of from 12am til 5:30am (I have pictures to back it up) the light comes into my back bedroom a bit but it really comes into my bathroom downstairs and it reflects off my bathroom mirror though my obscure glass it also hits the fence between me and my neighbour to the left side of me it also hits the back of our coop and needless to say this would set my rooster off.

Was told this past Tuesday that they wanted to come out and inspect as the lady claimed we had rats in our yard again and they were living in it which is bs we have no rats living in our yard and have found no evidence that they are coming into it! We are also 6 homes down from a fish and chip shop so I highly doubt it's just my chickens drawing them.

They are coming tomorrow they want to know what else I will be doing with my rooster and how I plan to fix his crowing I did make plans to lower the roof in my smaller coop as I did not plan on hatching chicks this year to help reduce the noise but the last few days I have been finding glass in my yard and my rooster has been acting agressive towards me and my husband again. To the point where Thursday I went out as the auto coop door failed to open so I had to go out and fix it and this bugger ran right at me while my back was turned! grabed a rake and he hit the handle thankfully nither of use were hurt but still that is not something he has done while my back was turned and he has no other males to deal with either. I have found him with cuts on his comb and his relectance to come near our gate from our porch onto the back yard worried me and that had started happening shortly after we got back from our visit to the USA.

So we decided if we are even remotely going to be moving back to the USA in the next 3 months to 1 year it's most likely going to be easier to rehome a flock of just hens then a flock with a rooster. Plus his agressive move that came out of nowhere was off putting along with the glass that has ended up in our yard plus his relectance to come near the gate when he would normally be the first there looking for hand outs and treats.

So with the on going issues and the concern over his safety we have rehome him. to the roasting pan. It's sad but at lest I know it was quick and as humane as possible :(.

Seriosuly tho if you live in a rual area your bound to have chickens and roosters so why move there and expect there to be none...

How sad that someone set about so methodically to create this mess for you. I hope you've taken pictures of the strewn glass and of your roo's cuts and injuries. Here in the US, that's a criminal offence and someone who does that can face some nasty jail time. Try that threat on your "friendly neighborhood Crank!"
It's even sadder that your roo had to pay the price for someone else's deliberate cruelty. Still, you did the right thing. The torment and abuse would not have ended with your return. It sounds like your sweet roo was living in a constant state of fear and apprehension because of it. That's not healthy or fair to either him or you.
Hugs from the US.
:hugs

Sadly I did not manage to get pics of the glass or his cuts but I will inform the council lady thats coming out today of it and I'm going to tell her straight up now at this point weither or not my rooster was a noise nuissence the people who complainted and stated other false issues like rats is using them as a form of harrassment and I feel my right of enjoyment of my property and my right to privacy is being violated by the person or persons who have complained. And I'm close to seeking legal advice while the council may have to investigate every report they need to make sure it's not from someone that has previously harrassed the person that has been complained about as they need to look more into these cases as possible abuse at that point.

I think it's unreasonable and stupid to expect a rooster to not crow at all and I'm really shocked how dumb some people really specially in seeing how we are so called advanced.

the only thing advanced I'm seeing lately is the stupdity in humans. I say that because over the weekend I had someone call me interested in buying a few hens from me they said oh I only want the broody hens you know the broody breed. I had to explain to them 8 times that their is no real broody breed but their are breeds that tend to throw more broody hens did not register at all then demanded I sell them all of my hens what entitled dips. then at mcdonalds I heared a woman had to be 22 years old ask her friend if they thought the hen and the cockerel missed their baby that they were eating on their mcmuffins. I know I said for f sake loud as they looked at me and got a dirty look on their face told them that was a dumb question and no they are not missing a baby as that was not a baby they were eating and that hens don't need a cockerel to make a egg, Seriously don't they teach anything as school these days?

I wouldn't say a word about the roo being gone unless it's required. If you have to mention it to the council woman, then make sure she knows to keep it quiet and monitor any more complaints. If anyone calls in a complaint after your rooster is gone ... you've got iron-clad grounds for a harassment suit!

Council lady got back to me they have agreed to not tell the person that complained that the roo is gone just yet and are going to be looking for where this other rooster is that was heard since I got rid of mine, as they agreed if another roo is heard it's unfair to blame me for all the crowing and they said sorry for making me feel as if that was the only way to get them off my back and they never ment to make me feel that way.

I did tell them tho these issues should be taken more seriously in regards to the person that has the complain put agaist them as some might kill it themself in a inhumaine way or even go some place at night and throw them away in a extrem worse case. They agreed with me and said they will keep a eye out for any more complaints lodged agaist me and basically said no rooster no problem have as many chickens as u want as long as you can care for them. They also agreed they saw no rats or signs of them things and over all seemed annoyed they have come out againt to mostly nothing but false complaints (minus the rooster).

Thought I would update. It's been what 6-7 months since my last post. I have not recieved anything from the council in reguards to me flock.

I still hear that one rooster and it's louder then mine and I know it has to be close. Yes I'm bitter my boy had to die because of this nasty beast of a woman but yet no one has complained of this other rooster who quite honestly never shuts up. My girls are looking rough cuz of no male to be leader so now half my flock now has those chicken blinder things which annoys me as well as only a handful if that were issues but with no male half the flock are now issues.

I plan on selling some of my girls this winter or next spring. I'm honestly sick of living in the UK now. They claim they are welcoming but I can't even find a job because I'm american cuz I might move back at anytime (discrimanation anyone?). I'm also no keen on how much health professionals push day care, nursery etc on parents or groups (specially on people that are uncomfotable being around unknown ppl). Not keen on how fast they expect kids to grow up think potty trained and putting own clothes on etc at 2-3 years old. Also not keen on their constant bragging that school uniforms makes everyone equal bs (please cheap uniforms vs pricey everyone will know by the end of the day who has money and who don't) that also don't stop other students from bullying or physically harming which they do nothing about.

Sorry for the rant ladies and gents I'm just so annoyed with how I have been treated and how I am being treated. Plus side all my hens are still laying a egg a day even my original hybrid girls.
