Managing eggs correctly

Just wondering what's the proper way to clean and prepare my hens eggs and how long are they good for? Should they be refrigerated?

It's a matter of personal preference. If you opt not to refrigerate then eggs need to be unwashed. Many who refrigerate also opt not to wash. Eggs that are soiled can be dry wiped then stored, spot wiped if absolutely needed or stored soiled and washed just prior to actual use. Refrigeration can extend the storage time for eggs - the shelf life depends on whether the egg is washed or not, the ambient room temperatures if not refrigerated, etc.....but eggs are good for several weeks to months depending on management.

We are very new to keeping hens (actually, ours aren't laying yet) but we do tend to our neighbor's birds whenever they're away. We have been dry-wiping soiled eggs as we get them, but should we be washing with soap and water (or just water) prior to eating?

What do most folks do? What's your routine?

Thanks

I usually was my eggs under warm water, No Soap! Eggs are porous which means they will absorb the soap! I use a paper towel or my thumb to gently scrub them. They must got in the fridge once they are washed. Hope this helps!
