Hello i am new to this forum.Im hoping to get a little help with incubation of mandairn duck eggs.I won 5 eggs on e bay.I let them sit a full 24 hours before i put them under a broody hen. My question is will she be able to hatch them? If she stops sitting them and i have to finish them in an incubator what is the correct temp and humidity? all help is apreciated!!!
Thanks

If at all possible, I would leave incubation up to the hen. Do you have a hen currently broody? I'm not an advocate of artificial incubation of mandarin eggs. If you have to though... temp should be 99.5, turned on their sides, and humidity 50-60%.

Scotts advice is all correct except I would bump the humidity up a bit. Also, the broody hen will do an awesome job, much better than an incubator. If she does stop sitting halfway through, you'll still have a better chance at hatching then just throwing them in an incubator from day one.

I prefer artifical incubation. That way I can control the temp and humidity. I hatch them out in my brinsea. I had put in about 4 eggs last year, and hatched out all 4. Then, I put a big batch of around 12-14 in a hovabator 1588, but I used the yellow turner instead of hand turning, big mistake, that ruined all my eggs, including about 30 call duck eggs.

Everybodys different in what they prefer.

I personally wait till the hen starts to incubate her first clutch and I then steal them and put them in the incubator on there sides and hand turn them on there sides. The hen will then lay another clutch and I will let her hatch them herself.

I do exactly what outbackhill does . I use a hovabator forced air with yellow turner but hand turn also 3-8 tmes a day when I CAN

if i could keep chickens here in the city then i could pull the eggs sooner .For me I get better hatches when the momma SETS on the eggs first for at least a week or two for all my wild ducks. GOOD LUCK

Ohh ty so much for all the help! I have been so worried about weather or not a Bantam hen would sit them long enough. The hen i chose also has another hen who will go broody with her so actually there are 2 hens in a small nest on the 5 Mandairn duck eggs.I took away all of their own eggs and have them in my incubator.I check the hens a couple of times a day to make sure they dont just walk away from the nest.so far so good! Im looking so forward to these ducks i sure hope the eggs made it thru shipping.Im so glad to have found and joined this site. I have so much to learn about raising these ducks and want to do right by them. Im so happy everyone just jumped right in to give me advise i truly appreciate everyones input.
Thanks
Tina
