Mandarin Breeders - Please help

Hi,

I need advice about shipping Mandarin ducklings. Is it safe to ship 1 week old ducklings at this time of year? I know when I have ordered ducklings from Holderread, they were shiped as day olds. Will the fact that they will be a week old harm them?? What do I need to know? I have never shipped birds before and really am very nervous. I can't imagine something happening to these guys. Thanks!

Hi KateMary,

I would wait till they are atleast 3-4 weeks old to ship them as mortality rate may go up in younger birds due to stress, climate changes (hot-cold) and handling. The only problem with shipping them at 3-4 weeks old now, is the heat of summer.

Its up to you, but if it was me, i would raise them through the summer and sell them around October, or if you really have to ship them out, wait a couple weeks and watch the weather report on your end and where the birds are suppose to go, if it is a short trip (neighboring states) you should be ok, if its across country, beware. Its taken up to 3 days for birds to get to me from New York to California, when i shipped a drake woodie to a guy within my state it was delivered to him the next day, from Northern CA to Southern CA.

Hi! I'm assuming you have the ducklings then. Just to throw it out there I'm looking for an adult male mandarin if your will to sell or know anyone who is.

Thank you Jason! I think I will wait with them. The buyer is begging me to ship now, but I just can't imagine if something happened to them. Thanks.


BTW: I do not have anymore for sale. Mine are sold and I have no adults for sale.
