Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

An adult mandarin duck will be okay. At that point it will be fully grown and past the delicate stage. It may be wild, it may be friendly...just inquire and see if anyone happens to have somewhat friendly ones for sale so that they are not so wild and just fly into things trying to escape and kill themselves (this is an warning for extreme cases, but you never know what can happen).

I once had a pair of wood duck that were really wild male broke his wing. Just bought a pair of widgeons a couple months ago and they practically eat out my hand. Like blue creek said u gotta find a good breeder

okay, what i think i can do is pick one out when it hatches and every weekend i think ill be able to go see it until it gets bigger :) and then when it gets old enough say 6 weeks? or 8 weeks i think ill be able to take it home, does that sound safe?

Seeing it every weekend won't do anything for it... You will basically be a stranger visiting it every week and potentially scaring it. It needs to be worked with every day to be friendly.

y'all do realize that i will do whatever it takes to make sure this duck will have a healthy long life right?

thats why I'm asking i would like to know what i can do to best meet its needs, and no I've made minimal experience with wildfowl all i have done s rehabilitated one mallard over the summer from a hawk attack down at the wildlife refuge, she was pretty wild, never truly warmed up to people but she tolerated us after awhile
