And yep, they have minds of thier own and are lightne quick little guys.
to stop them from climbing out again, you can trim the tip "hook" part off of each of their toe nails, just the tips, you'll see it if you look close.
With those on them, I think they can climb a glass wall

no if they are the owner of the wood ducks, you have to do nothing. They have to supply you with a form 3-186 waterfowl transfer paper. This will be your waterfolw holding permit. It allows you to posses them, but not distribute. If you later want to sell, trade or even give away any, then YOU have to have your own Federal permit. Even if they die and you give away the carcass to taxidermist or something you still have to have it

Thanks Aubrey, I know NJ is a little different with additional state permits, but I'd probably be able to get the beauties first, then do the paperwork once I had them and knew how many I was going to own...Captive Game permit, permit to import into the state, proof that where they came from is NPIP certified and the birds are vet checked- blah blah blah- makes me want to move out of this state!

Hey! I don't get on here very consistently!

I am in Utah, but I don't have the Fed permit to sell, trade, barter, etc. wood ducks. As cool as they look, I think I'll get out of the wood ducks and whenever I wanna see one, I'll just look in my living room where I have one mounted! Just seems like a hassle to get the permit, prepare reports and such just for the heck of having them. Mandarins and other non-natives are way cool and easier to work with!

or any looking to get into keeping them, the paper work isnt that big of a deal. I sold thousands every year and it took maybe 2 hours at the end of the year to prepare the annual report, not that big of a deal for a year worth of keeping, raising, and selling these beautiful birds.

all I did was take my copies of the 3-186 forms both from purchases and sells. and staple them individually to a peice of note book paper, then place them in a spiral folder.
same with the hatches, just recorded them on paper and put them in a folder.
now when the report comes you just run threw those folders and total up each male and female from each species and write the number down on your report and you are done....that's all the annual report is, a total of each male and female of each species for the following classes
1) bought
2) raised
3) sold
4) died
5) currently on hand

update: 5 nice pips on the Mandarin eggs in my incubator. 4 not pipped yet. These ones pipped sometime yesterday and last evening- we noticed them at 3 pm and on...how long on average from pip to hatch for Mandies? I don't want to intervene if I don't need to. These pips did get a bit larger overnight...just no zipping or visible bills poking out yet.
