Mandarin duck

So I want to start breeding mandarin ducks this year and I don't know much about them. I know they lay a clutch of about 6-9. But can I pick them up and they will keep laying or no? And also how many females can I have to one male?

A pair would be fine, Im guessing, as thats what they do in the wild.
Pick them up? you mean like, in your hands? If theyre tame enough already, then it would be perfectly fine. If not, I prefer not to chase my hens around while theyre laying...just as not to stress them and possibly cause them to hurt the egg that might be in there

Do you mean pick up the eggs? Because for other ducks you can, so I assume it would be fine. I pick up my duck eggs everyday and they continue to lay. But I eat our duck eggs and I have two girls. If you’re looking to breed and perhaps want to pick them up to move to an incubator or something, you may want to substitute eggs you take with fake eggs.

Oh, I see. I am unsure what could influence her to have a larger batch of fertile eggs. I don’t think you can keep her laying fertile eggs by removing some- I believe it depends on something like how many live ducklings she can produced based on how many eggs are fertilized so I’m sure the male and female both play a role. The duck doesn’t choose to have a nest of 6-9 eggs, so I guess what I’m saying is that’s not like her “goal” that’s just typically how many they produce.

They actually lay between 8-12 eggs. All mine laid 12 eggs each.

Does anyone have a pair of Mandarins available ?
