Manufactured Home Blues

I think the point here is that a manufactured home is not necessarily a trailer.

Back on topic please, k?

Thanks terrielacy

I wouldn't hold out on others, but you can be more comfortable with how you feel when others put down your housing. There will always be people who put them down. I don't think my stick built is any better.Infact it is probably worse considering the additions that were built onto the home were poorly done.

I remember looking at homes and there were times that I did not even realise I was looking at a manufactured home. Some places are really nice. All homes have issues so it is good to read you have not had anything to deal with.Enjoy your home!

Hi I live in a split level manufactured/modular home that was built in the 1970's. My house looks just like it was built like all the other houses around us. It looks like any other split level home. My husband says that a manufactured home can be better than a stick built home because it is built inside and never exposed to the elements while being built. I have lived in my home for 9 years now and can't see any difference from other homes.

DH and I bought one and lived there for four years. It was fabulous and we were very happy with it. It was on a full basement and had the interior upgraded walls, not the paperboard stuff. We loved it and would repeat the purchase in a heartbeat if we could.

If you love it and are happy there, anyone that doesn't like it can stuff it.

Life's too short to let other people bring you down. Who cares what they think?? You are the one that lives there. Chances are, they are too snooty to be a good friend anyway!!

I see no problems with a manufactured home in 1991, and its still going strong. We are currently looking at buying a manufactured home right now. The area we are looking at is pricey because of the land, so pretty much the only thing in our budget is a manufactured home. All of our friends have nice "stick built" homes. This house (im praying we get) is a manufactured (mobile) home. AND its going to be better then any one else's, because its mine (well ours)! We are going to decorate and do what ever we want to make it fit to who we are as husband and wife. (And the occasional chicken popping its head in the window or door). be proud of what you have!!

Our first home in KY was built "over" a trailer - had been added on to, a regular roof over it, and aluminum sided all around. It didn't look like a 'trailer', except maybe on the side facing the woods where the underpinning was, but we were on our acre and a half of heaven in the country in a great community, DH was Ass't Chief of the VFD, and we raised our kids there and loved it. AND paid it off in the 20 yrs we lived there. Yep, nothin' wrong with that at all.

Okay, Thank you everyone. I feel so much better now. It is great to know that I have a place to go where
others will reach out and make my day a little brighter.

I love my house, I think that it is pretty and I have decorated it the way that we like and enjoy it. We live in the smokey
mountain country with hills and mountains all around us. The scenery is something out of a painting.

I guess I was just hearing the negative aspect of MFH so much that I started to believe it. Sometimes it takes other voices
to get you back on track.

Thanks Again, BYC your the best!!!

We lived in a MH for a little over a year and we both loved it. It had some oddities that were such a plus: windows in the living room and dining room were almost floor to ceiling, all ceilings were vaulted in one direction (which cast shadows in a really cool way) and the walkways looked like they were built for someone in a wheelchair. I LOVED that house and would not at all be opposed to buying one.

Thanks, the house has been perfect. In fact the site built houses that we looked at has some severe problems.
things like mold, electric that is on a fuse and not a breaker system, roof problems, termites, and other
nightmares. I sometimes wondered why these houses were on the market and not torn down.

But here in east tennessee there are two extremes when it comes to housing. You can either have a nice house and a yard
that can be mowed with a weed eater, or a less nice house and have some land to cultivate. With prices
of land being so high to actually do both means you are rich. We were fist time home buyers with not a whole
lot of money at the time.

Now that we have made a little more money we have made changes to the house that we chose to do. But all in all the house
is in great shape, much better than what we looked at on the market.

Thank you for your post.

My co-worker bought a Palm Harbor MH, she lives about 6 miles from me. She has a jetted tub, walk in closets, three bedrooms, two fireplaces, a pantry. It is beautiful. Like you said, well built.

She loves it and is very happy in it. I wish MY house had a jetted tub! There is nothing wrong with MH. My husband and I watched a show on Discovery, it was about the houses that are built in a warehouse and then are taken apart, it takes two semis. They re-assemble them on your lot. They are all "green" building, and have a higher safety rating than my house has! We would love to have one on our property, if we could afford it!
