Many People Do Not Know Why There is a Rooster on the Kellogg's Corn Flakes Box

Collecting eggs in the spring predates recorded history an farming. Part of the hunter gatherer lifestyle. Anyone raised the old way, back when everyone had free ranged hens sees sending the kids to find where the nests are in the spring the same way as cutting wood in the fall. Its what has to happen an what has always happened. If you ask the old timers why you hunt eggs in the spring(easter) they will tell you because thats when they are there. The idea of chickens laying all year an you having eggs all year is a new one.

That's really interesting. I've hung around some old timers on my end, but never have heard that, or sending the kids to collect the eggs specifically. That'd be neat if it had something to do with hiding eggs. I've been trying to figure out the origin of that tradition for a while, and have heard some theories...but haven't seen one with solid historical references yet.

I frequently get cravings for milk at odd hours of the evening. As I can't stand the taste of milk on its own, I end up eating cornflakes for my dinner.

It seems many people like cereal at night. Maybe Kellogg's should put an owl on the box alongside the rooster. :)

I saw a special page on Facebook that asks, "Why is there a chicken on the corn flakes box?"

Some said they didn't know, and some said it is because corn flakes are made from corn, which chickens eat.

No. No. No. I think these teenagers are too far removed from rural life.

A rooster is on the Kellogg's Corn Flakes box because a rooster crows in the morning to start the day, and many people start their day with corn flakes.

Now if they could just learn that milk comes from cows and not the grocery store. :)

You are so right!

wait!!! milk comes from cows and NOT the grocery store?!?!?! Impossible!!! No, hang on, I remember as a child my mom & grandfather used to tell us that chocolate milk comes from brown cows so therefore, I do believe that milk comes from cows and not the store... it's all good, crisis averted :)

and I have to admit, I had forgotten why there was a rooster on a box of cornflakes... Thanks for reminding me :)

Well telling my age...but remember the TV Ads with the rooster crowing, then the shot of the rooster on the box.

wonder if those kids think tigers eat corn ????????

The Swiss are known for their chocolate, so I think chocolate milk must come from a Brown Swiss cow. :)
