Chirping
So, we got 10 chicks 4 days ago (I think) and when we got them they were around 3 days old. Sadly one chick passed away 2 days ago and we don't really know why. It either had a bacterial infection from pasty butt, got some kind of vitamin deficiency, got sour crop, or something else. I was heart broken when it died and I was so sad we couldn't save it even though we tried everything- it was too late to save it. So, I have been ALL OVER the internet researching EVERY SINGLE thing that can happen to chicks and now I am EXTREMELY paranoid about every little thing I see my chicks do. I don't want to loose another chick, my heart can't take it! So, 4 of our chicks got impacted crop because they LOVE eating our pine pellet bedding, so we covered it with puppy pads. We put the chicks with impacted crop (1 had sour crop) in their own sperate area in the brooder and had only water with apple cider vinegar in it available all night. In the morning we noticed their crops all emptied so we put them with the rest of the flock. We also gave them coconut oil while they were separated. But once we put them with the flock one chick started having diarrhea and I don't know which chick it is. The diarrhea is brownish and has no blood (thankfully). I also noticed some other poops have a shiny/oily coating. This does not seem normal since they never had it before! Then I notice one chick sneezed, so I watched it for a while, and it sneezed again. Then another chick was shaking its head, and it has been every 10 minutes or so. Then I was watching some sleep and suddenly their breathing will get super fast, then slow down to normal pace. I have no idea what is happening to my chicks and I really don't want to loose any more! I give them medicated crumbles, water with small amount of apple cider vinegar, and they have grit available. I keep their brooder as clean as possible and change out the puppy pee pads twice a day. What am I doing wrong and is this stuff a sign that my chicks will die?? They are all acting super active but I am still super worried after what happened to our other chick.
Also, I noticed some chicks have full crops that feel a bit harder than they should- not rock hard like impaction but more like dough. Do they have a yeast infection? I am so sorry about this long thread of me freaking out about every little thing but I am just super worried. Thank you!
