My sister keeps 2 roo's in the same pen with 18 hens. The one lost both feet due to standing in the water pan during a cold snap. He "roosts" on the floor of the coop with his 2 or 3 hens. He is still able to breed, as attested to by his offspring. We know this because he is a Silver Dorking and the other is a Polish. You can definately tell the chicks apart.
I believe my original question has been answered. So long as there are enough hens, the roo's are too busy chasing after their gals to be bothered wiht each other; much like bulls and cows. My problem is that I want to keep the original strains pure while selectively mixing some of the strains together.
I guess I'll just need to build seperate runs for each strain and introduce the hens that I want to cross into the roo's home pens.
