Maple's kitten adventures...

We lost one of the kittens from Winnie's first litter as posted above. My girls were still in grade school and were very sad about it since she was their favorite. But I saw it as a life lesson for them and we had a burial/funeral service and placed her in our "pet cemetary" and said a prayer. It showed them that you treat all living creatures with respect - even in death.

Baby 1 has passed away. It was a girl for sure. I can see today the other 2 appear to be boys. I wrapped the girl kitty up in a washcloth and showed her mama. Mama sniffed a few times and then was done. Me and the girls will bury her with our other cats along the garage wall. I'm happy I rescued mama and gave these lil ones a chance. It's supposed to be getting freezing cold and possible snow tonight. It's nice and warm and safe in my bathroom and mama is getting fed and loved and so are her babies.

Something must be in my eye.

Poor little girl.

I know...finding her was a God send. It was better for them to be here and warm and safe then to be out in freezing temps, abandoned, no food for mama, and probably would have been born in an old fallin down dirty drafty barn exposed to the elements and predators...

On a happy cute note...the other two are so cute with their lil squeaks crawlin all over thier mama and mama is very happy and concerned about her babies. I took the orange one and wiped his tooshy off since there was dried up poo and it mewed mewed! and mama jumped up by the sink and said, what chou doin to my baby? So I showed her his hiney and she sniffed it and purred and then I put him back in her box and she rushed in and babies climbed all over her furry mama self and she's happy again.

So sorry the little one didn;t make it but as you said you didn;t know what was going on inside the little one. - You have done so wonderfully for the little cat family. They will bring you so much joy!!!!!

You did you best - the thing is you gave the mom a chance - you said she was thin and not doing well when you found her and chances are that was what has caused the developmental issues in this little kitten. Take comfort in the fact that you have given the other two kittens best chance and this momma a lovely safe and warm place in your home and in your hearts!!!!

Oesdog - God bless you

So sorry she passed

By the bubbles coming out of her nose it sounds like she aspirated, & kittens, especially from rescued moms, usually don't survive very long after that even with vet care. Everybody in our town knows where we live so we get pregnant drop offs & very young orphaned kittens about once a year. DF always has me raise the orphaned kittens, & whenever I've lost one that's usually the cause. Keep an eye on them & make sure that mom doesn't push the other two away & they get cold. A heating pad wrapped in a towel or pillowcase is a good way to keep them warm & sometimes we've used heated water bottles wrapped in a towel when we couldn't get to a heating pad.

I will refrain from making guesses on sexes at this point since I am not certain.

The bathroom is pretty toasty warm...I cranked up the heat in there.

It's tough to see something so small and frail and totally helpless and feel somewhat helpless when you know there really isn't anything to do more than what was done. I am happy they were here and warm and safe and take comfort in that.
