They're so cute!

If shes %100 on the house being abandoned i have no issues with her taking the cat,my neighbor left a ton of cats when she left, sadly i couldn't save them all from the "humane" society trappers.

Good luck with the kitties, and the mom was probably a barn cat and she was likely a little more nervous than if she had been in a barn, thats the likely reason(i think) for over chewing the cord on the 1st baby.
I've had cats that could'nt have kitties in the house but birthed out in barn with no issues.

The 1st kitten was born with the intestines on the outside. The poor kitty was starving when she found her. I think it was a great thing to do.

Poultrypickens.... To reiterate what was said in the first post and make the situation clearer to all...the house was indeed abandoned. There was broken windows and a sheet of insulation up in one. All contents had been emptied. I stopped because of a dead cat in the road that wasn't there on my trip but was there on the trip back...the cat was still warm. I thought if it had been my cat I wouldn't want it mushed anymore and would want to know, thus I stopped, put dead cat under a tree and went and knocked on door.

All was empty, broken windows, nothing...that's when I heard ANOTHER cat meow desperately at me. I've been going by this house for weeks because I am moving and there has not been any sign of anyone and I'm making trips back and forth on this road from morning well into the evening moving my things. There's never been a hint of anyone there.

I am only to speculate that they have left--moved away---because I do remember cars being there before because I travel the road frequently. Last summer would be the last time I recall the house being inhabited but none lately, that and the windows are busted out and no furniture remains. Both cats that I observed were undernurished and had injuries...obviously the one that had been hit and then this pregnant cat that approached me so desperately. I assume they left thier "farm" cats to fend for thier selves.

A concious decision had to be made here and I believe I took a cat who had been abandoned and sought me out because she was very hungry and thirsty and I made the right decision in doing so. I am not feeling guilt of any kind nor do I believe the pregnant mother would have faired better leaving her behind when it is apparent that no one has been around for weeks--morning, noon, or night in weather that has dipped into freezing and was apparent the mother was using all her resources in carrying her babies and was starving to the point where her bones were sharp to the touch because there was no layer of healthy tissue or fat covering them. As the weather threatens of snow and more cold weather and her environment would have been a dingy broken down barn falling apart and open to drafts and predators and it was obvious there was no food or water made readily available to the cats left behind and thus is why I believe the other cat got hit in the first place leaving the home trying to find food and water.

Again, my speculation but sometimes one has to make adult decisions in life. If I for a moment thought this cat had a family, I know my heart break if someone "stole" one of my pets. But I've been on the look out...I am traveling that road multiple times a day at all hours and there is nothing there. She was not taken care of and was so very hungry and thirsty and so I decided to take her in and care for her. And she is such a very happy cat and in a safe environment with her newborn kittens as it should be. Unfortunatley there are far too many animals that are cast aside, left behind, and left to fend for themselves or are in aweful living circumstances and in fairness, I did my part to help a cat who was suffering who happened to be pregnant as well, I later learned. Her cries were pitiful and she latched on to me and held me and purred so loudly when I picked her up. She ate and drank so much when I took her home after I visited the vet to advise me on her health. She's no longer in need and desperate for food, water, shelter, and love.

Thank you for visiting my story.

ive "rescued" many kitteis over the years that definatly belonged to other folks...
my tempi cat came to me wonderfully healthy, sweet and gentle, not even a case of worms, but had been tied up with fishingline in a bag and tossed in the trash...
she was very obviously not feral...but there were no signs posted about a missing 6-7 week old kitten, the situation she was in was life threatening, and im not sure anyone who let their 6-7 week old kitten free to wander outside and be picked up by monsters that woudl do that to her...well...
ive had momma kitties find ME, i figure if they come crying at MY door, straving, scared and about ready to pop...well again who lets a heavily pregnant cat roam free?

if i FIND a kity i do keep an eye on craigslist, i send a picture and description along with a contact number to any local vets, shelters ect...the places any good owner would be looking, i also get them scanned first to see if theres a microchip...if no chip, and noone claims it within a month it either stays or i find it a new home.

people loose pets, accidents happen, but $30 will get your pet micorchipped, and a 5 second call around local shelters and vets will put you on the right track if someones found it...and a free add on your local (and other surrounding town) craigslists will help...
at the very least youd post flyers for amissing cat right?
if none of those things exist...then i feel i have done what i can do to return that kitty/puppy/bird/whatever to its original home...

theres only so much you can do in situations of stray animals.

this kitty OBVIOUSLY needed maple....
and given how affectionate and comfortable momma is...i highly doubt shes a barn kitty..shes been someones well loved pet at some point in her life, mabe she wandered away from a loving family, mabe she was abandoned, what is clear is if maple hadnt picked her up there would have been 2 more feral kittens in the world by the time theyd matured enoguh to leave the nest.

kittens are not born friendly, they must be socilized, and these babies would have been born outside if not for a kind person with a heart of gold.

Trying real hard to be nice here. Please read before making accusations even if they are veiled as questions. I know maple fairly well, I've conversed a lot with her on BYC in the open forums, by PM, on facebook, and have even been to her home. She loves animals but is not a rescuer. She will take what is offered but I really don't think she will steal. It might be a good idea of getting to know the forum before jumping into the fray with both feet.

Also I asked the vet to scan for a micro chip and there was none...the vet said he would be suprised if there had been one. The vet is the only vet in my town and knows me well and if he were to hear of a missing cat that fit her description, he would not hesitate to call.

You did right, maple.

And you got kittens!!! Who knows what might have happened to them out in the cold? Excuse me while I d'awwww at their utter cuteness.

Doesnt matter IF she stole a cat or not..,
Any idiot that leaves a pregnant cat, about to give birth, outside in freezing weather shouldnt OWN one anyways.... too bad if it belonged to someone..its in a better home now. Period..

And Maple... So sorry about baby #1...
