Maple's kitten adventures...

I am sure that it is the umbilical cord. She will bite it to "cut the cord." When she passes the afterbirth she will eat that too. This is natural don't panic.

I don't know...it really looks like it's intestines. It's not thriving and I think is dying. It's cold.

#2 is born and doing good.

Oh dear, I'm sorry. I wonder if you could gently push them back in with a gloved hand and then wrap the belly with gauze? I'm no vet, so that is a guess. Can you call your vet?

It could be, sometimes things aren't perfect. You could take a picture of it.

You could take the kitten from momma and warm it up and check it out to see if it is the intestines.

I hope the other kittens are doing better. You will need to keep that kitten warm. If it is intestines you will need to get it to the vet if it has any chance to survive. Sorry but sometimes these things happen - I know it happens to human babies and I lost a chick last year with that. Don;t panic just keep it warm and get it looked at ASAP if its intestines you need the vet to deal with it as it needs high care. - It may not survive. Had a kitten once that was born without a lower gut and it lived 6 weeks. You really need the vet to check and make sure everything is ok inside and working right.

Oesdog - Bless you.

Ok, so I took a lil heater and warmed it up and cleaned it off and got it dry and took string and tied around the thing that looks like maybe it is the umbilical cord. I cut off most of it with sharp scissors. I gently blew in the kittens airway as it had some bubbles from it's nose...I wiped clean and blew a few times. Now it seems to be breathing on it's own but it is not crawling around and meowing and nursing like the other one. I placed it's mouth around a nipple and it opened it's mouth but did not suckle. Mama licked it somemore but not as attentive as she is to the one that's meowing and wiggling around.
