I'll be cheering you on! What all are you hatching? And has anyone else noticed that the eggs that are developing feel heavier, or is it just my imagination

?! Sorry about your stinky egg, glad you found it before it exploded all over your other eggs! Were your eggs shipped? I was so careful not to order more than I could handle (silly me). I was obviously over optimistic!!!

Don't get too excited for me right now. I have my brooder with my older chicks in my garage and I had set up my incubator not a foot away. All 19 chicks and my Brodie silkie who adopted the two youngest all came down with coccidiosis yesterday. I put them on Corid but there's still bloody poop and a horrid smell when they have non bloody poops today. I don't know how transmittable Cocci is between ill birds and eggs, but I'm preparing for the worst. I'm not seeing any egg movement but my incubator temp inexplicably dropped to 95* this morning.

well i have a mixture of allsorts

Oh no...sorry about the coccidiosis. I have no idea how transmittable it is, I am sure someone here on the forum knows. As far as the egg movement goes, I don't think you'll see much because the egg is so full of chick. I know your hatch is ahead of mine (May 7th I think for mine), I candled last night and the chick takes up most of the egg so mine wasn't moving (I could see a little flicker of shadow move if I looked really hard. Hope your broody and chicks & eggs will be ok, keeping my fingers crossed for them.

Thanks guys. Yesterday was awful and today isn't much better. But I haven't lost any of them yet. I hope everyone's hatches continue to go well.

Reading up on Cocci: its not a bacterial/viral condition. Rather, it is the overpopulation of a naturally occurring internal protazoan. This can occur due to several reasons but I'm thinking the overpopulation reason is my problem. I think my chicks have outgrown their pen. So my eggs should be fine. Once my chicks have recovered I will be moving them out to the coop with the older hens, but in a separate area so they can get to know each other without getting trampled on.

I would be heartbroken. It's been a rough week and 19 ill chicks had just made it worse. Day 21 with my eggs and I'm heading out for my morning check do cross your fingers!
