Mattsinger: I'm glad things seem to be okay!

I'm about to give up hope. No movement. No pips. Day 24 I believe. Do I candle them? Do I just let them sit? I'm so bummed. I had hoped at least one would work. My humidity plummeted for several days even with cups of water in there and I just now managed to get it back up but it probably ruined it already. I've heard of people never using water at all and having good luck but I don't know how much truth there is in that. :(. I really wanted these little guys.

I did but they are to expensive. If these don't hatch it was a $20 failed hatch of only 12 eggs. We are in over $100 on them total with buying the incubation equipment. I won't be able to do it again for a while financially and I wouldn't buy them again since she doesn't speak great English and I can't even know if they were fertilized in the first place. I'd bring them inside but have no place that either my mastiff or my two kids wouldn't get to. Ah well. I probably shouldn't have ever tried in the first place.

Maybe just wait until it warms up outside? You say you're not sure they were even fertilized? I'd crack one or two open and see what's in there after a few more days. Maybe put them in a plastic bag before breaking in case they're really gross?

SarahInAlaska: I am so sorry your hatch is not working out. What are you going to do, do you think you'll wait a day or two, or will you break one open? (I know you can take a bit of the shell off at the top where the air cell is being careful not to break the membrane and take a look in). Did anyone on the forum have any advice for you? I paid $40 for 7 eggs (which as you know only one is developing) and I've just received my second shipment for another 7 eggs which cost $40 again that's for shipping, the eggs and packaging cost; I can certainly relate to the money you've put forward so far. I hope you get something out of your hatch, I understand the disappointment.

Since none stink I'm just going to leave them. If day 30 rolls around and I still have nothing ill start cracking them open. I've got a tiny hope they are just late bloomers like some have mentioned but I'm also trying to not get my hopes up. I had a really tough time getting out to turn them at the same exact time everyday so I'm wondering if that did it. I also had some temperature trouble. I guess I won't know until I open the eggs. Some have started to tip to one end like they are bottom heavy so maybe they are just trying to get into position. But the bator could also have been bumped, so I may be grasping at straws.

It seems odd to be that we have to have an exact temp, exact humidity, and turn at exactly the same time every day. A broody hen surely doesn't eat and drink at exactly the same time. How would she monitor humidity? Lol! I think we do the best we can to try and recreate the mama hen's care, and hope for the best.
