maran eggs

I have a question about Marans. How do you pronounce it?! Is it MUH-rens, or ma-RENS??
I've been looking for some for so long; nowhere to be found near Houston. Then I walk into my feed store 10 days ago and there were chicks! Manager said they came from a good Texas hatchery that I buy from, so hopefully these chicks are correctly labeled as pullets. Huummm, I dunno, though, because some seem to be growing bigger and threatening to have combs and little tailfeathers more than the others. I got 10 chicks, maybe close to 3 weeks old now. Cuckoos were the only kind, but I'm glad to have them. I can't wait til I see those dark eggs. But taking care of chicks now is very difficult. They're in my house in front of a heater; don't know what I'm going to do as they grow bigger if the weather here is too cold!

I Pronounce it Mare-ens. There are people that would tell you that is wrong. It is a french word, I say I'm not in France so why say it with the french accent.

I have one cuckoo maran. She is my biggest bird, even bigger than my black copper maran rooster. She only gives me normal colored brown eggs. She is also my best broody.
