Maran, Hens or Cocks

American style Marans do not have foot feathering, only French style do. Their leg color is correct, grey/white, and Marans generally do telecast early.

But I'm not getting a lot of Marans vibes off these birds...the cuckooing looks more barred to me, and they eye color is wrong (should be reddish bay). They also have more of a Barred Rock body type than the solid, tall standing Marans type.

I am definitely thinking both are males, especially the full head shot that shows red wattles developing.

Since the combs are large, but not really pink/red yet, I would wait another couple of weeks...if by 12 weeks of age you've got more pink in those combs, definitely male.

They may be badly bred Marans...or more likely a Cuckoo Marans mix...or simply a regular Marans with a barred type bird, probably mix with Barred Rock.
