You know, I think the main thing with the ones I have is there is no way to securely attach them to the side or top of the cage. But you are right, the 250 watt bulbs get so hot. I am thinking I need a different enclosure and a different bulb. I put the chicks in a cage because I figured they needed good ventilation, but I see pictures all the time of chicks in boxes and plastic tubs
They probably hold the heat a little better.
