Well, I won 12 Black Copper and Copper Blue Marans. i divided 3 each under 2 broody silkies and have a friend who put the other 6 in an incubator for me. Today is day 22 and still nothing. I threw one out that went real light, and when I opened it there was nothing but stench. I have been checking and there is one that has a crack in it but it looks more like from the outside in, like maybe momma did it, not sure. I don't hear nothing and It don't look like they are moving. I never candle, I probably wouldn't see much in such dark eggs. My friend has had no ahching yet either. Do Marans take longer? These eggs were big, if that matters. I soo wanted thes to hatch as they would have been my first Marans andI won them, I was soo excited , now I'm getting really disappointed. How much longer should I wait? hey were packed beautifully and the box was in great shape, I just don't know what could be wrong since my or my friends in the incubator neither one is hatching?

yes the same with me 2day, its day 22nd and no hatching - opened one egg uo and it had a chick in it but i think i killed it - it wasn't totally developed. i am going to leave them in there for another three days to see what happens, i think you should do the same. and whatever you do don't open an egg. thats what i did and killed it. just be patient

There isn't much to do but wait. And watch. They might still hatch.

The friend with the bator, did they have good humidity levels?

Marans do sometimes take a day or two longer depending on the environment they are in.

There is nothing to lose by letting them go a few more days.

Good luck!!

I believe he had things set up right, as he has other chicks hatching in the same bator, so i'm assuming everything was good on that end.
I am just gona wait a few more days like ya 'll say, I have nothing to loose and keep my fingers crosse. Thanks,

I have heard Marans are hard to hatch. A friend of mine has attempted to hatch two batches from different sources and both times had a very poor turnout

I am sending good hatching vibes your way! I hope the little ones make it

Marans can be stinkers to try and hatch! They were developed in the humid swamps of France and the humidity is a key factor in a good hatch. I have had trouble with these. I suggest buying live chicks to someone who doesn't have the money to fork out to try and obtain a good stock...it can get really expensive. I spent almost $400 bucks on marans and only have one decent hen for breeding. Then when you have a good stock to work with, practice perfecting your hatch rate with these. eta: I am through buying hatching marans eggs - live chicks from now on is the best bet for me.

Good luck and sending good hatching vibes to you as well!!!! I love BCMS!!!!! They are worth the time, money, and frustrations in the end

I didn't have much luck with the eggs that I had mailed. I think though that I'm going to attribute that to the USPS though because the man I bought them from has had good hatch rates on his shipped eggs and the corner of the box that I received was crushed. I am absolutely going to try again though. I have been hatching chickens since the spring and my DH wants the BCM more than any of them, so I will try, try again.

I think the trouble with hatching Marans has more to do with the shipping and not the eggs themselves. I don't have any problems hatching my cuckoos and wheatens and I incubate them along side my other breeds and don't do anything different for them.

Well I just came in after checking the rest of my eggs and I ended up pitching them!! I had one spurt on me and boy do I stink!!

. Out of the 4 eggs I had left one was fully developed and one started to and the other 2 were liquid. My poor broodies, all that work for nothing

. I emailed the person who I won them from, she says probably the air sack was bad due to shipping. I am so sad and disappointed, but I hope to get some someday again. I sooo want some of these birds.
