Thanks Debbi - I've been out of the BYC loop for awhile. Did your son get home from Iraq? Mine is due home early March so 2011 should be a GREAT Year.

Feb. - daughter #2 due with her first child, a boy, and my first grandson.

March - son due home from Iraq.

July - daughter #1 due with her second child which by then will be my third grandchild (she already has a baby girl that is 18 months) - sex of new baby still unknown.

So it's a Bumper Crop year here at Bethel Farms.

Well that may be so. But this is NEWNAN... the show that may qualify... Sheeesh!! Get the groomin' done... (just in case ya have to nab em and go!!!)... good luck with new baby... (tell daughter to cross dem leggies) he he...

Thanks Geebs - I did tell her that last night when she told me she had started to dialate and is upset because her husband, her sister, and me (the three people she thought would be with her) all have the flu and/or pneumonia. Her original due date was Feb. 26th but she's HUGE. Dr. said if she hasn't had it by Monday she will induce - so we are just in waiting mode. But I do pray I will be well enough to be with her.

Seriously though, anyone know if there are restrictions about taking chickens on a plane? I know you can take cats/dogs in a small carry on.

Best thing to do... One... Get some Pau D' Arco tea and drink several glasses... snack on dried cranberries and take some tumeric capsules (restore blood flow to the lungs and reduce inflammation).. Really... Garlic isn't a bad idea either

Good luck with the baby... I had pnuemonia last year and it hung on forever... till I started being very proactive... The tea will make you tired and help you sleep.. It will also clean the buggies out of the system... Very reasonably priced treatment..

I would call the airlines (about a carryon pet) if you think you are well enough to make the trip... That much stress on a taxed system..?? Really you may do better to stay in bed.. Ship some eggs... unless of course you have an amazing relapse of good health with Geebs recipe for good health.

If you do make it... with or without pet... make sure to take photos for us voyeurs!!!

Ruth,

No Son home yet. He was supposed to leave Iraq on the 3rd, but as of the 5th he was still there. As far as I'm concerned, they should've been home 5 months ago when all the equipment was gone. They've been sitting there with nothing to do for the end of their tours. I need to call his wifey and find out what the heck's going on, and where he is.

Wow, do they let you carry on a chicken on flights??? I can't imagine a roo could go coach!

I haven't flown since the 70s, and don't intend to start again now! Pat ME down??? I think NOT!

They'd better wine and dine me first, and then come up with at least a 2 CT. ring!

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how dissappointing that can be. Is he in Baghdad? If so, maybe he and my son know each other. What's his name? I video chat with my son via Yahoo and I can ask. In the meantime, I'll keep praying. Per my son, they have moved his date up once already and I'm praying they'll keep moving it. Enough said - it's a chicken forum and I already get into too much trouble.

Hi Susie,
Do you mean the 4 foot deep inside house would be divided into individual pens with kennel fence run outside of each? That would be great for your breeding pens & alot less trouble than the ones I build since you already have the bones. Good for you. I had nothing to start with but a big open corral.

I HAVE AN EGG EATER IN MY FLOCK - - - -

Up until this past week, I have had no problems with any egg eaters. .. . .
BUT it has rained almost everyday for the last week ( 4 out of 5 days). The one day it didn't rain, it was too dang cold to let my chickens free range. . . .
So, they have been locked up in the coop / pen/ run for the last week.

Coincidently, my leghorns have started slacking off on laying eggs - - - WHICH has NEVER happened!

I found goo all over the batch of eggs yesterday and KNEW I had an egg eater who had a preference for white leghorn eggs.

QUESTIONS:
Will chickens start eating eggs if they are use to free ranging and don't get out?

Will chickens start eating eggs if they want to go broody and are being interuptted by other hens wanting to lay their eggs?

HOW do I catch the naughty egg eater?

Today, I went out at the crack of dawn and through two hens and the roo out of the pen and into the free range area. One of the hens is the marans that RARELY if ever lays and egg and the other hen was a speckled sussex who ate her very first egg BUT none since. I got lucky and caught her as she was starting and took her away from it. . . . . . So, I through these two into the free range area JUST IN CASE ONE OF THEM WAS THE NAUGHTY GIRL . . . .

I got back from town around 1:30 today to find ONLY 3 eggs in the nest and a goo spot. . .

SOMEBODY ELSE is NAUGHTY!
