Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hmm, just got a call from the PO, no eggs today, and no one has bothered to scan the parcel since it's left WA. Post Mistress said they are now required to scan all incoming parcels at each stop along the way. Seems Kansas City, KS post office can't follow that rule. Sure hope they get here tomorrow.

Debbi... on Christmas Eve my eggs arrived amid the Christmas rush... it was banged up and battered and set for several days longer than it should have... and I still had a hatch... SWWWEEEEEZZZEEE It will be okay...

I want to pick the brain of some more (more than me which is not much) experienced BCM breeders. I have five seventeen week old pullets.
Two have been showing good color in their hackles for some time and overall are looking very promising.
One is rather mossy but still looks pretty nice otherwise. I am going to move her in with my laying flock.
Two are showing no color at all in their hackles.
My question involves the pair that appear as though they are going to be all black.
They do not look overly black other wise. The eyes are colored like the other pullets, which are orangish. the legs are slate, and beaks are horned colored.
Will I be able to correct the lack of hackle color easily?
Any advise would be welcome.

I know Jan, other folks seem to be lucky that way. After my last disgusting hatch, I was hoping all would go smoothly this time. My nerves are eating me up!

I'll just keep breathing and wait till tomorrow...

Where ya getting eggs and what are they??? (if ya don't mind me asking)... what are you working on Girl???

I just sold the little trio of BCMs I hatched Dec. 1. The lady had bought some from me before and loved them, but ended up loosing her rooster. I was happy to hear from her, and happy she was so thrilled with her chickens, but sorry she lost her roo, of course.

I'll be hatching some more later this spring, so I hope they turn out nice. She wants to get some more pullets.
