Yes this morning is quite unusual and beautiful......you should have seen it around 330AM and then you should have seen the moon and the sky at 4AM....changed completely.....up here it looks very eerie outside when it is that light out and it's suppose to be dark...out here ya know it is pitch black at night.

Mornin' all,

My youngest chicks spent their first night out in the little coop last night. They fared just fine. Guess it's starting to become easier to let go of the "house chickens" for me too!

Odd moon here last night too. The weather man kept calling it a full moon, but from what I saw, it looked more like a pullet bullet?? Maybe my chicken eyes are taking over the way I look at the whole world??

Going to set Pink's eggs at 9:30 this morning. Wish me luck, this will be the longest wait EVER!!!

But seriously though..... tons and tons and tons of good luck and hatching vibes coming atcha Ms. Debbi! Thank you for being so patient and understanding while you were waiting for them. The longest wait I think was waiting to get the actual eggs wasn't it???? This next 20 days will be a breeze....but that 21st day is going to be a dooooooooooozzzzZZZZZZZYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

I have a patch in my farm yard, it is the first thing green each spring, and the last thing still green in the fall. Chickens don't touch it. I have heard the leaves can have liver toxicity too, but that is in mammals.

We mostly use it as a poultice for bumps and bruises.... works great for that!

edited to add..... the bees love the flowers!

I'm going to candle my other eggs in the bator before I put yours in. Never done it before, but I just checked out a thread on candling, so at day 12 I should get an idea of what is or isn't going on in there. Lockdown for them is next Thursday, so will fire up the LG on Tuesday to get it stablized, and put mine in there. Can't wait to see if any of these are fertile and if yes, what kind of sports may pop up. This hatch is for you Geebs! Thanks for the good hatching vibes!!

The gophers loved mine & I couldn't keep it . After a few seasons it was totally gone & it was funny because the first time they attacked it they took the plant down the hole & then way across the yard it started coming up (growing a new patch) at another gopher mound.............. Mother Nature is so interesting................

I would be careful about assuming that the chick that "looks" like a pure Marans really is. You can get a chick that looks like just one parent when in fact it is from 2 breeds. I had a fence jumper once and didn't realize it until I had some Ameraucana chicks hatch from blue eggs with feathers on the legs.

Interesting... I planted some this year and my chickens went crazy for it! I will have to see if they ate too much of it or if it actually grows back. I think I may have to protect it until it grows big enough to survive my birds devouring it.
