She practically called you by name Pinkchick ha ha... (I knew you would find it... You have that blue radar thing going on)

LOL! You got me all figured out!

BTW: Thanks for your kind words about my last little blue....she is a doll, already has that very relaxed hang loose attitude that I have come to expect from the Marans. I wish that she had a little heavier feathering on her shanks but I will be happy with what she does have, she has a line of what I call single feathers from the top of the shank to the outer toe, but not physically on the outer toe. I am very happy with her eye color so far.....doesn't look like she is going to break my heart like the last few that were just culled from that pen.
Ohh and just for you .....her name is Charmin Whipple!

Hi

I am working on solid blue Marans. I once saw a copper blue Marans and fell in love with it. I developed a line of copper blues and birchen blues but now concentrating on the solid blue.

Bev,

It's your Blue Coppers that got me hooked!!!!!

I love the Blue Coppers, too!

This is my favorite pullet form this year, Jilly. Her coloring is great, and she has nice lacing on her blue feathers. Her foot feathering is probably a tad too heavy, though you can't tell from this pic.

This pic is about a month old - her comb and wattles have started to color up. I can't wait for her first egg!

How does everybody take their egg pics? I have to take a bunch just to get some that come out 1/2 way decient. We just have a cheapo camera so I guess that might be a good place to start. These were taken today from Cottage Hill BCM's

Lovely eggs Steve!

I take pics of my eggs outside with out a flash in natural daylight, I also try to put them on something that is white or atleast off white. The white makes them POP and I believe helps show a more truer (sp?) color.

Wynette, The Pene's have a straight comb with a Carnation at the end of the comb. That is the easiest way to tell if a BC has any Pene blood infused. It normally will only show up in the mixed Males and not the females. It is a cluster of side sprigs called a Carnation as it is Carnation shape.

If your Pene didn't have the Carnation Comb they were probably not pure as this is what I have been told by the Pene folks. I will leave this up to the pro's,

On the Feather Mites do a search on the internet and you will see all the info. The info I related to all came from MSU here in Michigan. The method of getting rid of them was from Dr. Swartz head Avian division at one time, Dr. Fulton is in that position now.

I just can not understand why there has to be an arguement everytime something is brought by someone that is not one of the chosen one's. Anyone can message me if I can help with anything.

I didn't see anyone arguing with you.....if you are referring to me asking about the straight combs on the Penes I had, I meant that as a quesiton, not to begin an argument - sorry if you took it that way.

Or anything else I say for that matter - please know that I'm not one that "sugar coats" - if I have a question, I just ask. No offense intended!

Iwas refering to the Poultry Feather Mite subject. If anyone wants they can do a search and there are many articles on the subject.

Don, I still don't see what you mean about an argument, but sometimes different people see different things in posts. Of course, you're right - there's lots of info. out there. Regarding that quill mite, what I posted was that I was "told" by a chicken breeder that they must be culled to get rid of them - I've not had them, so I'm unsure of that. They sound like nasty bugs, and I'd be more likely to try the Boric Acid mentioned before I'd cull. I was also told that you have to pluck a feather & take it to a vet to find out for SURE on the quill mites, but it sounds like you don't have to - thankfully! Still itchy.....
